Former Mets reliever Jared Hughes announced his retirement from baseball on Instagram Sunday night.
“I’ve hung up my cleats. It was time. They were worn out from all the sprinting,” Hughes said at the end of his Valentines Day post to his wife and two kids.
In his lone season in New York and what would be his final season as a pro, Hughes appeared in 18 games, finishing 2020 with a 4.84 ERA, 21 strikeouts and a 1-2 record.
For his career, Hughes had a 2.96 ERA, threw 371 strikeouts and had a 30-26 record in 542 games.
