SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – After amassing an impressive record, including a career win percentage of 81.5% and 10 NCAC Coach of the Year designations, Joe Fincham, a staple on the Tiger sidelines since taking the top spot in 1996, will make his 25th season as Wittenberg’s head football coach his last.

Fincham, who is currently ranked 9th in win percentage and 10th in total victories among active football coaches across all divisions, formally announced his retirement from Wittenberg to his staff and team today, Nov. 18, five days after the 2021 regular season concluded.

“Joe Fincham is the winningest coach in the tradition-rich history of Wittenberg University football,” said Brian Agler, vice president and director of athletics and recreation. “His long tenure brought conference championships and other on-field success to our University. He has also impacted numerous lives of student-athletes. We wish Joe, Rita, and their children, Mack, Samantha, and Annie, the best as he begins this exciting new chapter.”

For a quarter of a century, Fincham has built upon Wittenberg’s proud athletics tradition, leading the Tigers to an overall record of 224-51, including a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC)-best 165-24 record during that time. Three years ago, Fincham also became the 86th head coach in NCAA history to surpass the 200-win mark and the 26th Division III coach to do so. Only 44 coaches, including Fincham, have managed to achieve this distinction at one institution. With that accomplishment, the West Virginia native joined the likes of Woody Hayes, Bear Bryant, and John Gagliardi on the eye-popping shortlist of coaches.

Additionally, Fincham’s teams have captured 14 NCAC titles, and Wittenberg has reached the NCAA Division III Tournament 14 times during his tenure as head coach. Along with his NCAC Coach of the Year awards, Fincham has earned numerous coaching honors including the American Football Coaches Association Regional Coach of the Year in 1998 and 2009, and Ohio College Football.com Coach of the Year in 2009. His teams have also produced 77 All-Americans, and in his dual role as offensive line coach, he has tutored 11 All-America offensive linemen. Moreover, he led the Tiger football program to its 600th all-time victory in 1999 and its 700th all-time victory in 2011.

OG has announced Ceb’s retirement from competitive Dota 2 play.

OG’s two-time champion, former coach, and iconic offlaner Ceb has stepped away from the team’s active roster. This concludes (at least for now) Ceb’s decades-long career in Dota 2.

Talking about the reason for his decision, Ceb shares:

“The win-or-die mindset, which has driven the entirety of my career… I don’t have it in me anymore. I never commit to a team or to people unless I know I’m ready to give every drop of energy and every second of my time into it.”

In spite of his retirement, Ceb remains to be a part-owner of the organization. Currently, the team has not made it public what their roster for DPC 2021-2022 will be. Rumors suggest that teammate and also two-time TI champion N0taiL will also be retiring from competitive play. With Sumail and Saksa also leaving, this leaves only Topson and NotaiL remaining in the OG Dota 2 roster. However, OG has also been teasing a possible return of carry and seasonal pro player ana, something that is still not confirmed either by the player or the organization.

As for Jerax, the fifth two-time TI champion formerly from OG, rumors suggest that he’ll be joining NA team Evil Geniuses.

By the end of 2022, a familiar face for Philadelphia news watchers of all ages across the region will be retiring from his on-screen anchor role.

Jim Gardner, long-time 6ABC and Action News anchor, announced earlier this month that he will be scaling back his schedule in preparation for his imminent retirement next year.

During his announcement, Gardner said he will continue to anchor the 6 p.m. Action News broadcast until the end of 2022, but starting in January 2022, will cease anchoring the 11 p.m. newscast.

“It’s hard to imagine that I have had the opportunity to spend a professional lifetime with colleagues so committed, resourceful and wonderful. They have taught me so much about television journalism and about myself. I am profoundly grateful,” said Gardner.

Gardner then went on to reflect on his tenure with the 6ABC and Action News team.

“I have spent most of my adult life at Action News, and many of our viewers have grown up and experienced life along with me and the on-air team I’ve worked side-by-side with. I’ve been blessed to raise a family here and to be a member of this community over the past 45 years. I feel I have a special relationship with our viewers and the communities we serve, and I plan to continue to enjoy every minute with them over the next year,” he added.

Now 73, Gardner joined WPVI-TV in Philadelphia as a reporter and anchor of Action News at noon, before assuming his current position of anchor of Action News at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. on May 11, 1977.

His nearly 45 years is the longest tenure any on-air personality has had in Philadelphia’s history.

6ABC President and General Manager Bernie Prazencia praised the impact Gardner has made throughout his career with the station, and expressed gratitude for his contributions.

“For many of us, Jim is the last news voice we hear before ending our day,” he said in a statement. “Thankfully, we have another year with him during the 6 p.m. newscast, and we look forward to his continued presence and leadership.”

Throughout his career, Gardner has been a constant presence delivering the news on nearly all of the major events in Philadelphia over the past four-plus decades. This includes triumphs, such as the Phillies’ 2008 World Series win and Eagles’ 2018 Super Bowl victory; to tragedies, such as the 1985 Move Bombing; and major events, such as the 1983 election of Wilson Goode as Philly’s first Black mayor and the 2016 Democratic National Convention.

His retirement will mark the end of an era for many long-time Philadelphia residents, from the Baby Boomer Generation all the way down to Generation Z.

Gardner’s replacement has yet to be announced for both the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. broadcasts.

Stephens said he has been under intense stress, which has had a negative affect on his health. He apologized for not filling out his 2020-2024 term as sheriff and thanked his supporters. He also said he has learned a lot about himself recently and while he has tried to change his attitude, it appears to have been too late.

Stephens said he isn’t looking for sympathy. He said he wants to enjoy life with his wife and watch his grandchildren grow up.
A Charleston-based law firm had been investigating complaints against Stephens on behalf of the Wood County Commission when Stephens announced his retirement.

That investigation has since been suspended. However, he is still at the center of two law suits for his alleged mistreatment of workers in the sheriff’s department.

Wood County Commission has been charged with finding an interim replacement for Stephens, before voters pick someone in 2022 to complete the 2020-2024 term.

Stephens said in his post that he would do anything he could to make it a smooth transition.

Danilo admits that comments from Neymar regarding his international future with Brazil have made things “complicated”, with any revelations from the Paris Saint-Germain superstar being turned into a scandal.

The 29-year-old forward told DAZN in October as he looked ahead to a showpiece even in Qatar next year: “I think it’s my last World Cup. I see it as my last because I don’t know if I have the strength of mind to deal with football any more.”

No definitive decision has been taken there, with Danilo still clinging to the hope that Neymar can be talked around, but he feels too much is being made of a situation that many others have encountered before.

Editors’ Picks

What has been said?

Juventus defender Danilo has told GOAL of Selecao team-mate Neymar and the possibility of a man that currently has 115 caps to his name walking away: “It is complicated.

“Players from other teams talk about this subject. Toni Kroos retired from the German national team recently. It’s not as scandalous as when Ney talks.

“He has to be careful, but if he said that, he has his reasons. Certainly, the people who work with him think and analyse the situation.

“It is a very personal matter, difficult to give an opinion, because I’m not able to feel the same feelings as him. I hope he is with us for a long time because it is very nice to see him play up close.”

Is Neymar still a talisman for Brazil?

Neymar has scored 70 goals for his country, leaving him just seven short of Pele’s all-time record, and remains the man that Brazil look to for on-field inspiration.

He has already graced two World Cups and captained his country to gold medal glory at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

For Danilo, he remains a talismanic presence, with the Juve star saying: “Without a doubt, it does not even need to be said.

“Most people don’t know him up close. Because I have known him since my Santos days, I can easily say that I have met very few players who are as passionate about playing football as he is.”

Brazil have already booked their place at Qatar 2022, as they top the CONMEBOL qualification standings, but still have four more rounds of fixtures to take in following their 0-0 clash with Argentina.

Desert Sands Unified School District Superintendent Scott Bailey will retire at the end of the school year.

“Copy!”

With that one word I knew I wanted to be in the news business.

I was 20 years old, working as a copy boy for the Houston Chronicle. I was the grunt of the newsroom.

When reporters, sitting at their manual typewriters, yelled “Copy!” I ran to their desk to see what they needed. It would be a variety of chores from finding “clips” of previous stories to taking their typed-out article to the editor.

That afternoon, the newspaper would be dropped off at desks inside the newsroom. To me that moment was magic.

Photos: Consumer Bob Signing Off Into Retirement After 40 Years, 20 at NBC 7

Today, that magic happens every afternoon when reporters are scattered across San Diego, anchors sit at their desk in the studio, producers and directors put on their headsets in sub-control and the newscast begins.

For 40 years I’ve been a part of that process, 32 years in San Diego. After my copy boy days, I graduated from UC San Diego with a degree in Communications in 1980. A year later, my wife, Lorraine, and I took our 1-year-old daughter to Missouri where I completed a degree in Journalism at the University of Missouri.

My first full-time job in journalism was at WBBH-TV in Fort Myers, Florida. I was a general assignment reporter and weekend anchor. I learned the daily grind of reporting and how to look cool, calm and collected in 90 degree humidity — not easy for a California native. I covered city hall, crime and courts. After two years it was time for a new challenge.

For the next five-and-a-half years I worked for WAVE-TV in Louisville, Kentucky. We moved to Louisville with a second daughter. Before we left in 1990, we added another son and daughter. In Louisville I learned the subtleties of reporting; how important visuals were to storytelling, concise writing, and letting the story itself drive the narrative rather than be influenced by a preconceived narrative.

I returned to San Diego in January of 1990 where I worked for 12 years at KFMB. Again I was a general news reporter, covering everything from wildfires to Comic-Con. But all that changed when Jim Holtzman, the news director at Channel 8, asked me to be the consumer reporter. I said no. But Jim knew better and I agreed. I never looked back.

Consumer reporting offers you a chance to make a true difference in people’s lives. With the help of outstanding producers and volunteers, we were able to help people resolve problems and get their money back. It was at Channel 8 that my 4 o’clock producer nicknamed me Consumer Bob… and the name stuck.

In 2001, I was hired by NBC 7. It has been a great fit. For 20 years we’ve been saving people money, warning them about the latest scams, and telling them about the latest gadgets and the best deals. We started NBC 7 Responds and have saved San Diego viewers $1.2 million.

I was part of great investigations including the San Diego Water Department, billing issues with the local ambulance service, and bringing down a couple who stole thousands of dollars from band students at four area high schools. We have been honored with numerous awards for our work.

But the greatest treasures of my career have been to meet and help San Diego viewers. They have been warm, gracious and accepting.

It is time to retire, but it’s not easy. I’ll be 68 in January and have four children and nine grandchildren living across the country. I will travel, surf, volunteer and enjoy every beautiful day San Diego has to offer. And I will be forever grateful for a career that has blessed me and my family with friends and memories to last a lifetime.

Mercy Health – Lorain’s Market President Ed Oley has announced his plans to retire in 2022.

Ed Oley (Submitted)

Oley has served in the role for 14 years but actually was an integral part of the market for 43 years, since he originally joined the organization as a pharmacist, according to a news release from Mercy Health.

During his time at the helm, Oley has helped pave the way for major partnerships with both the OSU James Cancer Network and Akron Children’s Hospital as a way to expand access to health care for those living in the Lorain community, the release said.

He leaves the market with a legacy of growth that includes the opening of new facilities in Wellington, Oberlin, Avon and Oak Point in Lorain as well as the development of a new facility in Sheffield Village that currently is under construction.

“Ed’s tenure and contributions to the ministry have earned him a place as one of our most notable leaders,” said Brian Smith, Core Operations president and chief operating officer for Bon Secours Mercy Health. “His dedication to the Lorain community, to building the physician network and expanding specialty services will leave a lasting legacy.”

Oley has been recognized by organizations such as the American Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America and the Ohio Latino Affairs Commission.

He’s also received the Leadership Lorain County Eric Nord Award for his exemplary leadership, the release said.

That leadership made Mercy Health – Lorain a 10-time winner of the Northcoast 99 award for being one of the great workplaces for top talent in Northeast Ohio.

Even Oley himself admits it was a hard decision to finally hang up his hat.

“I have long told myself that when the day came that I woke up and my leadership position at Mercy Health was not fulfilling, that would be the day that I would ultimately retire,” he said. “Well, the truth is as the days became years, I learned that that my criteria to retire would never allow my retirement to happen.

“I love what I do, and I feel like I have the best job in the world.”

Oley finally decided to step down from his role in hopes of spending more time with his family, the release said.

Oley’s last day is Jan. 1.

Mercy Health leaders are now developing a plan, to include the naming of a new leader, that will ensure a smooth leadership transition for the market, the release said.
